Félix Navarro: Honesty is a Crime in Cuba

Honesty is a crime in Cuba

Felix Navarro represents all the solid values that enrich the human soul: order, justice, moderation, humility and honesty.  Hardened in the face of the unjust sentences suffered for defending freedom and rights for Cubans, he has not lost an iota of his nobility despite the cruelty to which he has been subjected, especially now, when his daughter has also been sentenced to prison: 8 years for her and 9 for him.  Strength of spirit and dignity is the trademark of this family who, with total serenity, is firm in their convictions.  They are right and true and they are not alone.

The Cuban government, lost in the path of darkness, despotism, selfishness and why not say it, of evil and absurdity, will not be able, with its evil arts, to twist the will and hearts of so many Cubans, who like them, suffer unjust sentences for supporting the voice of a people tired of living under a totalitarian government that has declared war on them.

The nature of the Cuban government is no longer a secret to anyone.  Its support for the Russian intervention in Ukraine makes it clear that violence, rhetoric, abuse of the strong over the weak, lies, and coercion are its working tools to stay in power at any cost.  The Cuban regime chooses to continue repressing.

The new Cuban Penal Code, scheduled to be approved in April 2022, will provide the regime with another repressive legal instrument against members of the independent civil society.   It is Article 143, which is not contemplated in the current code and which will punish any national or foreign public or private aid or financing with prison sentences ranging from four to ten years.  With this mechanism, the regime is trying to justify the repression it has been exercising for decades, on the one hand, and on the other, to make sure that practically anything can be punished.

The implementation of indiscriminate terror is a sign of weakness, which derives from a formal authority that has been imposed and not cleanly elected.   From there derives the conflict of the Cuban government with the figure of Felix Navarro, from whom emanates a moral authority: the power of the person who is recognized, although socially or collectively he does not hold an office or a position that grants him influence as such.   It is an authority that is practically the opposite of the previous one.  The source of his influence is his values, experience and knowledge: conviction as opposed to imposition.

Political practice in Cuba has forgotten decency, dignified and respectful conduct towards citizens, the country and one's own conscience.  Ethical values today seem to have been forgotten, but the Cuban people have changed and have raised their voices.  Time is running out and they know it.

Thanks to Félix and so many .....
