Patria y Vida Artists in the European Parliament
Watch this historic livestream event with Patria y Vida Artists invited to speak at the European Parliament on Feb 26, 2021.
In response to the overwhelming popularity of the Patria and Vida/Home and Life song in Cuba and in solidarity with those leading the peaceful struggle for democracy in the island, the European Parliament will livestream a historic event called “Homeland and Life, Art and Politics United for Cuba.”
Democratic Spaces calls on pro democracy defenders around the world to connect to this event as it speaks volumes about the ways in which Cuban artists and rights defenders are connecting with the international community and mainstream culture in democratic nations. Whereas the dictatorship has stated a defamation campaign against Luis Manuel, Yotuel and Cubans who think different, international organizations express their support to the cause of a a free, democratic and inclusive Cuba.
Guest speakers include granny nominated artist Yotuel (Orishas) and contemporary Cuban artist and main coordinator of the San Isidro Movement, Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara. The event is hosted by Dita Charanzová, Vice-president of the European Parliament and Leopoldo Lopez Gil, Spanish-Venezuelan politician who was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2019.
The Q&A session will be hosted by Javier Larrondo, president of Cuban Prisoner Defenders.
