José Daniel Ferrer Garcia held incommunicado
In this audio from May 8. 2023, Dr. Nelva Ortega speaks up against the denial of family to José Daniel Ferrer Garcia, prisoner of conscience and leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba.
On May 5. 2023 Nelva went to the Mar Verde prison for the scheduled family visit and was denied once again from seeing José Daniel. In addition, Nelva has been denied phone conversations with José Daniel for the past two months.
José Daniel Ferrer has been arbitrarily jailed since July 11, 2021. In retaliation for this decision to remain in Cuba and refuse forceful expatriation he has been subjected to the most brutal forms of torture according to a report on torture of political prisoners in Cuba.
A prisoner held incommunicado may be considered an enforced disappearance if the authorities refuse to acknowledge the deprivation of liberty or conceal the whereabouts of the person, and if their family members or legal representatives are unable to obtain information on their fate or whereabouts.
