REGÍMENES DEPREDADORES DE LIBERTADES INTEGRAN EL CONSEJO DE DERECHOS HUMANOS
A dark week for democracy defenders worldwide. The dictatorships of Cuba, Russia and China were elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council on October 14. There used to be a time in history when dictatorships such as the ones in South America, South Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia in the 1970s and 1980s had to pay a price for their repressive policies as they were isolated and condemned in the international arena. Unfortunately, the most recent election of a group of authoritarian nations to the Human Rights Council shows we live in an era where dictatorships can gain legitimacy and thrive by working their way around the United Nations and the international system. In the past the cost of ruling under dictatorships was too high. In our dystopian world reality it seems that is no longer the case.
