Prominent Human Rights Organizations Condemn the Arbitrary Arrest of Denis Solís

Despite the Cuban regime’s use of his media monopoly in the island to unleash a slanderous campaign against artists of the San Isidro Movement, its propaganda has not made any impact on credible international organizations. One of the most recent organizations to join the choir of voices demanding the release of Denis Solís is the World Movement for Democracy. The NGO joined other prominent human rights organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Freedom House, Pen America, Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL), the Argentine civil association Cultura Democrática, and the British human rights organization Article 19 in condemning the arbitrary and politically motivated arrest of Cuban rapper and human rights activist Denis Solís. The organization highlights how Denis’ affiliation with the San Isidro Movement (made up of artists, activists, poets, academics, LGBTI who advocate for freedom of expression in Cuba) and his critical artist productions have made him a target of persecution by police in Cuba.
