LUIS MANUEL OTERO IN A HUNGER AND THIRST STRIKE

On July 4. 2022, Cuban artist, human rights activist and leader of the San Isidro Movement declared himself in a hunger and thirst strike in the Guanajay Prison. This constitutes a protest for his arbitrary imprisonment and 5 year sentence.

Prior to being jailed, Luis Manuel Otero as a founder of the Museum of Dissidence and subsequently the San Isidro Movement became a crusader leading numerous street protests and critical performances against censorship and in support of individual liberties and human rights in Cuba. He took part as a performing artist in the Patria y Vida song which became an anthem of freedom and hope for the people of Cuba.

This video serves as evidence of the call of a new generation for DEMOCRACY in Cuba. In it the artist clearly demands DEMOCRACY. Similar voices were echoed across Cuba.

Democratic Spaces joins the global campaign calling for his immediate and unconditional release along with all Cuban political prisoners.
