Arrest of Maykel Osorbo

Independent journalists Esteban Rodriguez of ADN Cuba and Hector Luis Valdez of Heraldo de Cuba courageously captured the moment when dissident artist Maykel Osorno was arrested this evening in Habana by so called Black Wasps or repressive forces of the regime.

It was reported that Maykel was arbitrarily arrested while walking on the streets wearing his face mask. It was also reported that police violently knocked down the door of Maykel’s house in the presence of a minor. Maykel was taken to the police station located in the Cuba and Chacón streets.

This is an example of how a cell phone and a live broadcast on social media are capable of exerting pressure, raise awareness.

I just got confirmation from artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara that Maykel had been released. The video is nevertheless valuable to show how regimes only yield to pressure, not silence.
